Description:

Streptomycin is an essential antibiotic which is often used to treat many bacterial infections (for example: tuberculosis, brucellosis, mycobacterium avium complex, tularemia, burkholderia infection, endocarditis and plague). Streptomycin is known to be naturally produced from the actinobacterium Streptomyces griseus and it is also activity is directed against tubercle bacillus and gram-negative bacteria. A number of common side effects include fever, rash, vomiting, heading spinning and numbness of the face. Streptomycin is also used in combination with penicillin as a standard antibiotic cocktail in order to prevent bacterial infection in cell cultures. Due to its many side effects, streptomycin it is rarely used for human treatment, however, it has a vital application in the veterinary area. For example, following the treatment of mastitis in breeding animals, this was found to cause elevated streptomycin in milk, muscle, liver and kidney. Another relatively new application for antibiotic streptomycin is described as Plantomycin (treatment of fruit tree which are known as fire blight).

The Abraxis Streptomycin Plate Kit applies the principles of enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to the determination of Streptomycin.

Intended Use:

Streptomycin ELISA kit is a procedure designed for determining quantitative amounts of streptomycin in food. This assay has a minimum analytical sensitivity limit of 1.0 ng/ml.

The minimum detection sensitivity level of streptomycin using current streptomycin ELISA kit was 1.0 ng/ml. The standard range for this assay is 2.0 – 200.0 ng/ml.

Stability:

The solutions must be allowed to reach room temperature (20-25°C) before use. Reagents may be used until the expiration date on the box.

Storage Conditions:

All reagents supplied need to be stored at 2-8°C, unopened reagents will retain reactivity until expiration date. Do not use reagents beyond this date.
