Detection Principle:
This test kit is based on the competitive enzyme immunoassay for the detection of Chloramphenicol in the sample.
Introduction:
Chloramphenicol inhibits the synthesis of essential protein for the bacteria, and in some eukaryotic cells by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow and replicate. The drug enters the bacterial cells by facilitated diffusion. Using this mechanism eye drops include chloramphenicol to treat a bacterial eye infection called conjunctivitis. Chloramphenicol works against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and anaerobes bacteria. It is active against Rickettsia, Chlamydia, and Mycoplasma. It is mainly effective against H. influenzae, S. pneumoniae, S.typhi, and Neisseria species. Chloramphenicol has a great solubility in cerebrospinal fluid so it is used to treat staphylococcal brain absecesses.
