Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic that possesses outstanding antibacterial properties and is frequently used in the production of meat, milk and eggs. The following product sample can be used in many applications in human and veterinary medicine. It can help in the detection of signs, symptoms and in some cases even offer therapy options; for example eye ointment in order to treat conjunctivitis, oral or injected into a vein to treat plague, meningitis, typhoid fever and cholera. Due to its adverse effects it has been found to cause in humans which often can result in infection, inflammation, hypersensitivity and food allergy. The use of chloramphenicol as an antibiotic and vitamin is restricted and in a number of situations is prohibited especially during food safety and analytic studies. There is also evidence to indicate that in humans it can lead to haematotoxic side effects such as induced aplastic anemia.
The following assay methodology offer’s many advantages over the conventional methods in that no radioactive material is required, the procedure is shorter and provides sensitivity that is better than chromatographic and comparable to radioimmunoassay. Two of the main methods which have been used for analysis are gas chromatography and radioimmunoassay.

Detection Principle:
Chloramphenicol ELISA Kitis an indirect competitive enzyme-labeled immunoassay. The Chloramphenicol antigen is precoated on the wells. The precoated antigen compete the Chloramphenicol antibody (antibody solution) with Chloramphenicol in the sample, anti- Chloramphenicol antibody binds to the Chloramphenicol-HRP enzyme conjugate. Then pipet the substrate solutions to the wells to convert the color.
The color of unknown samples is compared to the color of the standards and the Chloramphenicol concentration of the samples is derived.
Intended Use:
Chloramphenicol ELISA kit is intended for measuring quantitative amounts of chloramphenicol present in food and urine samples. This assay has a minimum analytical sensitivity limit of 0.03 ng/ml.
